Meeting with Congressman Price
On Valentine's Day, I was able to take time off from the CADCA Conference (Community Anti Drug Coalition of America), to do some sightseeing and also meet with my congressional leader, Tom Price, M.D. I found him to be a very dedicated congressman and I enjoyed the opportunity to speak to him about Parent Corps and the wonderful things going on at Walton High School. Congressman Price sends you all a "Hello" from the Hill.

CACDA Conference February 13-16
I was invited to attend the Community Anti Drug Coalition of America Conference (CADCA), held in Washington, D.C. during the week of February 13-16. There were over 50 booths present providing information on Underage Drinking, Home Drug Testing Kits, Red Ribbon Ideas, Youth Pride, SAMSHA, NIDA, Health companies, etc. I also had the opportunity to attend workshops pertaining to student improvement programs, media support, how to get businesses to support your cause, and took one afternoon off to visit Capitol Hill and speak personally with my Georgia Congressional leaders, Tom Price, M.D. and Phil Gingrey, M.D. and their staff. All in all it was a very successful week for me and I enjoyed being able to speak to others about Parent Corps and explain how they can empower their parents in their communities.

SURVEY SAYS: Girls are getting into trouble
Although the overrall illicit drug use among youth 12 to 17 has decreased, The National Survey on Drug Use and Health released a report showing that girls are using marijuana, alcohol and cigarettes more often than boys. The national survey based on 70,000 families discovered that 1.5 million girls between 12 to 17 starting drinking alcohol compared to 1.28 million boys, 730,000 girls started smoking compared to 565,000 boys and 675,000 girls used marijuana compared to 577,000 boys. Girls may become addicted to smoking faster than boys and even moderate drinking can effect their growth and the development of their reproductive systems. To find out more about this recent survey and what you as a parent can do to help provide positive measures to change this survey go to http://www.theantidrug.com

Welcome to Parent Corps
The Parent Corps, created by National Families in Action (NFIA), is dedicated to helping parents prevent their children from using drugs. Parent Corps provides parents with science-based, drug prevention education, hands-on-tools, and a peer network that supports parents in their daily efforts of raising a healthy, drug-free adolescent.
There is no membership cost, no monthly or weekly session to become a member of Parent Corps. But with your membership you will be provided information through an electronic e-newsletter twice a month, have the opportunity to attend educational program at Walton High School, and mobilize your group of friends into a parent networking system which will empower you to raise your child in a safe, healthy, and drug-free environment. To become a member of Parent Corps contact me at pat.giuliani@parentcorps.orgtoday, and lets work together to make our school a safe, healthy and drug-free school.
